Ben Shelley: Setting expectations for Adin Hill’s first season with the Sharks

With the god awful roster that Doug No Plan Wilson has assembled there are clearly ZERO expectations for the Sharks. SJ will finish dead last In the Pacific. It's really unfair to the fans that none of the Sharks management cares.

It isn't that they have a bad roster. They have a lot of solid pieces. This team lost its identity when they let Pavelski walk. Traded away heart and soul players and bet way too much money on Evander Kane and a broken Karlsson. Now they are in a position where they have too many un-tradable contracts.

I guess they couldn’t afford Pavelski with all the other bad contracts. Joe scored 38 in his last season with SJ. The talk in Sharks land was how slow Joe was.

Production wise Burns has suffered the most since Joe’s departure. His point totals have cratered by not benefiting from all those deflection goals by Pavelski.

Couture was supposed to take the leadership reins but injuries and lesser leadership ability than Pavelski and Thornton did that in.

If he doesn’t let in a goal within the first 5 minutes of the first game he plays, then he will have exceeded my expectations 😁

The team is really not very good and therefore Hill will be exposed unless he stands on his head. Martin Jones takes a lot of heat for the last couple years in San Jose but I predict he will regain his form in Philadelphia as the Flyers have really added some quality dmen. Hill is very good but I would be surprised if he can rescue this team all by himself.

I could sort of excuse DW for letting Pavelski walk. He (Pavs) is defying the odds... he's past his "best-by" date but still producing like he was 7 years ago. The trickle down effect definitely hurts the Sharks overall as well. Not having him in front of the net really kicked Burns' game in the crotch. And...ugh....locker room drama. I believe Pavs would have handled the Kane issues, but who knows for sure.

Unfortunately losing tends to throw a giant magnifying glass over these sort of things.

It was a big risk signing a talent like Kane with all his baggage. Supposedly, Kane and Thornton were friends and Joe vouched for him. I think Thornton was the glue that made things function with Kane. When Thornton left, my first thought was things could go south with Kane.
